I manage several websites for Maui Economic Development Board. One of their programs, Focus Maui Nui, had a website that hadn’t been updated for many years. Working with MEDB and social media specialist Peter Liu of Kaiscapes, we decided a WordPress-powered website was in order. We realized that much of the content in the previous version of the site was very blog-like and that this blog material would be the focus of the new website, supported by Facebook and Twitter satellites.
For the redesign, I followed a similar website makeover process that I taught in an August WordPress workshop – taking the WordPress 3.0 default theme TwentyTen and making a custom child theme. This included widening the theme, creating a custom home page with excerpts and thumbnails, as well as incorporating a featured content slider on the home page.
